Raising a family in the same city where he was born and raised โ€” Phoenix

Meet Matt

Iโ€™m Matt Evans, a Phoenix native, father of three, and Iโ€™ve always been proud to say Iโ€™m from Phoenix. This is my hometown, the city where I was born and raised. I even named my son Phoenix. But the Phoenix I see today isnโ€™t something Iโ€™m proud of. Itโ€™s not the city I grew up loving, and itโ€™s not the city I want to leave to my children. In my opinion, Phoenix is broken, and the people breaking it are still in charge.

Iโ€™m a Senior Platform Engineer and part-time Uber driver. I was originally inspired to fight for our city after driving Uber around Phoenix and witnessing the growing homelessness crisis firsthand.

But the more I looked, the more I realized that Phoenix isnโ€™t just struggling with homelessness. Our city has been mismanaged across the board โ€” from overspending, to rising emergency response times, to understaffed police, failing schools, and declining public safety. Over time, the people lost their power, and more importantly, their representation. City Hall stopped listening.

WHAT WE PAID

  • A record 22% sales tax increase without voter approval

  • 26% water rate increase

  • 38% solid waste rate increase

  • ~60 million of taxpayers money on a โ€œtree equityโ€ program

  • ~170 million to bring โ€œtoilet to tapโ€ treated waste water into Phoenixโ€™s drinking supply

  • ~5 million of taxpayers money to fund illegal immigrants*

WHAT WE GOT

  • More Data Centers

  • A City Council that has self proclaimed socialists and police abolitionist.

  • Speed Enforcement cameras and a city pushing mass surveillance

  • Record High Emergency Response Times

  • Understaffed Police Department (665 officers short as of May 26)

  • Higher Costs of Living

  • A growing homelessness Crisis

  • More panhandlers on the streets

  • DEI hires at city hall

  • Mask and Vaccine Mandates

Iโ€™m here to make sure that we the people are in control and have a say at what happens in our city. As a precinct committeeman in LD2, not only am I fighting for North Phoenix residents, but Iโ€™m fighting to give all of Phoenix a real voice and true representation in our city government.

What I Stand For

โ›บ Tackling Homelessness

Solutions that show compassion but deliver real results.

๐Ÿš“ Safer Neighborhoods

Standing with law enforcement and demanding accountability for crime

๐Ÿ’ฐ Lower Taxes

Restoring fiscal responsibility so every dollar is respected.

๐Ÿ” Accountabilty

Transparency so government works for residents, not special interests.

2026 Is Our Chance

In 2026, four of the eight Phoenix City Council seats are up for election:

  • District 2

  • District 4

  • District 6

  • District 8

I started Take Back Phoenix (TBP) โ€” is a team of four regular people standing up to save their city - running for each of the open city council seats.

A new majority on the City Council means real power back in the hands of the people. It means rethinking our cityโ€™s future, correcting course, and finally seeing real change on our streets โ€” not promises.
